Twigs Gift Company

Please keep in mind that I don’t particularly care to shop and that writing editorials about little know stores are not my object or forte but know that when I see something that strikes so many people, regardless of what it is I just have to spread the word. Twigs Gift Company is exactly one of those places to put on a must visit list. Read the rest of Twigs Gift Company »

Tower Creations

Fly among the eagles, wander among the bears, stalk with the cats or swim with the fish. Sit on the rustic life of the wood shaped to accommodate you whether it be a chair, bench, table or bed. Watch a master hard at work creating a life. It is almost miraculous to see pieces of wood come to life in the way William Tower makes it come to life. Read the rest of Tower Creations »

Historical Museum

The Central Oregon area has a lot of widespread history. You can obtain bits of knowledge of what life was like here and when things happened by reading the various history books published about our area but you can’t touch them except within your mind. Well what if you want something a bit more tangible. To be able to really see and not in pictures, the life in which we used to live. Living inside of the Historic Reid School built in 1914 made of colored volcanic debris is a place of extreme knowledge and tangible history. Read the rest of Historical Museum »

Sunriver Ice Rink

I don’t know about everyone else’s lives but to often mine seems to go in circles so the last thing I want to do is go in even more circles but what do I do…I do it on purpose. I take the 15-20 minute drive from La Pine (or from Bend) to Sunriver, sometimes fight for a parking spot, sometimes I end up farther away than I want but what I end up with, to me, is worth it. Rosland OHV recreation-La Pine

A little bit of you and a little bit of weeee; a little bit of motor between your knees; maybe a piece of rubber or hard plastic shell, no motor behind but you’ll still get the thrill. Rain or shine, snow or not, it doesn’t matter as you’ll have fun. You ask, “What is she talking about?” Read the rest of Rosland OHV recreation-La Pine »

Sawyer Park

Do you ever find yourself wishing you could just get away; even if only for a short time, a place to sneak off to? We never seem to take enough time for ourselves. Of course you have to get things ready as if you’re planning a trip and that takes away some of the spontaneity. Sometimes life happens and you simply have no time. Read the rest of Sawyer Park »

Highway 58 scenic drive

Scenic drive, lake-side picnic area with a view You have read many of my previous editorials and several of them mention Hwy 58 and so I wanted to give you all a bit more of an in depth look at what you see, just in driving by and without stopping.

Hwy 58 is one of the shortest scenic routes that I know of in Oregon but nonetheless it is full of its own bit of magical splendor, majestic falls, pristine water, mountain views, many streams, campgrounds, fishing, water and snow sports and the lush forests as well as all that it has to offer in the way of consumer products. Salt Creek Falls Hwy 58

Salt Creek Falls, standing on the ridge aboveSalt Creek falls is located on Hwy 58, 20 miles East of Oakridge. Salt Creek is approximately 280’ and drops down into a pool. You can swim in this pool but it is mighty cold and the last bit of trail to get there is very slick. This last bit of trail is not governed by any marked areas or handrails so take definite caution. Willamette ski area

Willamette ski lodgeDo you like the snow? Sometimes the cold, even if it is bracing. What about running amok in the snow while the wind blows it all sideways or maybe there is no falling snow and the sun is bright in the brilliant blue sky which of course during this time of year makes things sometimes exceptionally cold, and very easy to get sunburned in the winter. McKenzie River Viewpoint

McKenzie River viewpoint, entrance signI found McKenzie Viewpoint quite by accident and only simply because I needed to stretch my legs after almost 15 hours of driving…am I crazy? Oh probably. Here I am flying down Hwy 126 West at 60 mph and decided I needed out and no sooner had I thought that that I passed an opening to a little wayside but then immediately saw another turnout for the same wayside and pulled in. I was out of the car quick as a flash and the first thing I saw was a sign that told me I was at a viewpoint so I took a walk. Read the rest of McKenzie River Viewpoint »
