Heceta Head Lighthouse - Oregon Haunted Places

north hecetaAcross the way from Cooks Chasm is the Heceta Head lighthouse. The lighthouse some of you may remember, was in the middle of a controversial subject of demolition not to long back. So far Heceta, built in 1894 still stands and still shines as one of the Oregon Coasts brightest and farthest reaching lights out upon the sea.

Nestled among the craggy and rugged promontory of the isolated headland, sits the most photographed lighthouse on the Oregon Coast. Its quiet majestic splendor attracts many. From the regular tours given May through September, to its gift shop and Bed & Breakfast, this piece of oceanic beauty gives way to the vast sight of the ocean, 205’ feet above sea level and maintains a constant awe inspiring feeling and sight.

My favorite part of the journey through the lighthouse and what it has to offer is the night time walk from the B&B out to the lighthouse itself. From the massive amount of stars that sometimes feel as if you can reach out and touch them, to the wonderment of the feeling of synergy between heaven and earth and here you are in the middle of it all. Isolated yet not untouchable. This is definitely a moment to become one within yourself as well as the atmosphere around you. Maybe it is the air of mystery of the alleged hauntings of this lighthouse or just the location and feeling of simple isolation; whatever it is does remain a mystery as to why when one leaves, they leave with solid spirits in their heart and mind and a restful appearance.

The Mariner’s room is my favorite of all rooms. Offering what I believe to be the best views of the Pacific, being the most serene and simple as well as being the most reminiscent of the times of when this lighthouse was built. Mind you the rooms are not cheap as I paid over $200 for the night, the one time I stayed there.

Heceta also offers holiday menus such as Easter & Mother’s Day Brunch. This is an awesome place for weddings and special Christmas events are also scheduled. For more information please call Heceta at 1-866-547-3696.

Aside from that the headland is also a great place to watch the migrating gray whales, numerous sea lions, especially considering this is just a few miles from the Sea Lion Caves (separate posting) and of course the various species of nesting birds in and among the craggy rocks.
