Rosland OHV recreation-La Pine

A little bit of you and a little bit of weeee; a little bit of motor between your knees; maybe a piece of rubber or hard plastic shell, no motor behind but you’ll still get the thrill. Rain or shine, snow or not, it doesn’t matter as you’ll have fun. You ask, “What is she talking about?”
Rosland has three intertwined and looped miles of trails that wind through our towering Ponderosas on a semi flat wooded area. These trails have beginning through intermediate powered sport riding. There is also a very large pit where one side is a beginning play area and the other side being for some of us more advanced players. There are a few mounds throughout the pits and you see some pretty hot riding. The pit is of a special design, being made to withstand impacts it’s actually encouraged for trick riders to play, flip, jump do cookies on the quads, however you play is fine as long as you play courteously. For winter recreation, the whole area is still open but to sleds, snow mobiles and cross country skiers.
Now there are two cool things that tie this whole area together. One is the view of Paulina Peak, the avid snowmobiler’s paradise. During the day Paulina can be seen and is a wonderful view for the backdrop of the sunrises and sunsets, the other is the trails and the pit, how they join together. All the trails wind around the rim of the pit as well as throughout the pit. Unfortunately I don’t get a lot of opportunity to play in this fashion but when I do I try and get as much snow, mud, sand, whatever is available to me. I guess I like that up close and personal view when playing.
Lastly, Rosland sits right on a paved road and so is easy access to RV’s should you wish to camp. There are several campsites, complete with picnic table. There are also restrooms and viewing areas. There is no water.
Rosland Recreation is located in La Pine, half hour south of Bend, located less than one mile from Hwy 97 on Reed Rd, which can be accessed directly from the highway on your left, right before Gordy’s truck stop. There are the occasional closures due to high fire danger but they are rare. To check ahead for closures during fire season please call (541) 383-4010.
