Oakridge Airport-Highway 58

Ok so maybe you don’t get too excited about airports I don’t know. I love them. I love the planes, the helicopters and all that pertains to flying and being in the air but the Oakridge isn’t just an airport, it’s a playfield with a view.
From the airport aspect, it hosts a 3500’+ runway and is open to the public, ran by the State of Oregon and is for general aviation and generally unattended and with no tower. Both airplanes and helicopters alike use this runway on a regular basis and the people to contact for further information is the airport manager, located in Salem, OR and can be reached by calling 503-378-4880.

Now for the other side of the airport…ok so we see a lot more planes and helicopters than one might ever see far in the sky, more than what anyone flies. Why? Because this is a known site for all aerial remote control flight craft. Have you ever had the controls of one of these, even if you’ve accidently crashed it into the ground? It really is fun and a challenge.
This is a great area up here because of the open space, the views that can be obtained, the people of Oakridge you meet and every once in awhile you can even get a free flight in a real plane.

The airport is 1 mile West of Oakridge, up the little winding road to the top of the hillside, you’ll see the sign and the views over the Willamette Pass or Hwy 58, both one in the same. Complete driving directions can be found here at Mapquest. Now while it may only show Oakridge as a spot in the road Oakridge does have full facilities with the exception of a mall.
