American Legion Post 45-LaPine

There is this great looking log cabin in LaPine which is the home to one of the three local American Legions. The Legion in LaPine is Post 45. The other two Legions are located in Prineville and Redmond. Most people, when they think of The American Legion, think of it as a members only club that is full of veterans. In one case they would be right, it is full of veterans. Though knowing this post intimately I can say it is more than just about veterans and it is not always a members only club.
Post 45 hosts many community activities. The 4th of July celebration, The Dixieland Jazz Festival in August, Easter, Thanksgiving, which we are proud to say that we serve the most turkey day dinners in all of Central Oregon, Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years Day celebrations as well as the myriad open receptions and weddings, barbeques, live music and karaoke. Several motorcycle runs a year are also run out here, hosted by the ALR (American Legion Riders) and generally are run for a children’s benefit.
At Christmas there is a special Christmas party for the kids so that they can come and see Santa, play games, make cupcakes, join in the raffles to win some pretty cool presents. Last year I watched a young girl pray that she would win the 2’ tall, remote control Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The kids that are frequently seen here, all year round, range from ages of birth to when they become an adult. There is pool, air hockey, foosball and several different coloring and activity books, a table top video game machine and full Oregon Lottery facilities. Outside is a fenced in grass area full of picnic tables, a basketball court and the infamous horseshoe pit and the covered stage for our outdoor bands. There is also Bingo, every Thursday which also happens to fall on one of the nights that dinner is served.

New years Eve also includes a full dinner and live music, and New Years day is filled with our infamous fresh barbequed oysters, complete with the secret bbq sauce, courtesy of one of the Preacher Brothers. Dinners are served on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, breakfast is on Sunday. Friday dinner and Sunday breakfast menu varies, Monday is our taco night and Thursdays are the hotdog and burger nights. Sometimes you will even find the special treat of some wild game dish.
Lastly but definitely not the least…there is the Marine birthday, the NJROTC Spaghetti feed and Ball and these also have their own individual raffles.
So, if you are down our way, give a call or come by, we’d love to have you. Everyone here is friendly and you will be treated as if you were family and be sure to tip the bartenders! For those who do imbibe too much, there is always a sober driver to make sure you get where you need to be safely.
We are located on Drafter Rd., Directly behind Dairy Queen, which sits on Hwy 97. Or if you prefer to call 541-536-1402, someone will answer the phone.

This was a very interesting article. It sounds like a fun place to go and meet people plus enjoy good food.
My daughter, Sigrid Davis, works at the American Legion and loves it there. I have visited a couple of times while in LaPine.
Keep up the good work!!
