Wiley Creek-On the way to Marcola

Wiley Creek-Central Oregon & BeyondI don’t know what it is about this stream but something draws me to it every time I am in this particular neck of the woods. Wiley Creek is located in Sweethome, on the way to Marcola. There is a sign for Wiley, you won’t miss it. Wiley does have great fishing for Kokanee and you can watch the different salmons swim, clear running water, and great little swimming holes throughout that even though small are deep. Wiley Creek is located across from the Green Peter Reservoir in Sweethome on Hwy 126. From Bend take Hwy 20 West, towards Sisters, it will turn into Hwy 126. Drive 126 until you get to Sweethome. There is a marker road sign, right before the bridge, that will tell you that Wiley Creek is to the left. The specific area of the pictures that were taken is approximately 6 miles and while you’re driving, enjoy the scenery as it just becomes more beautiful.

Several small waterfalls flow in this creek. This is just a peaceful little area.

A lot of green, redolent of red clay, great if you are one who loves to play in the mud as I do and if you are adventurous enough and have a 4×4 you can take anyone of the numerous side roads that wind through the hills and eventually puts you atop the ridge that surround this area. I have come across many deer and elk in these ridges. While Wiley creek is on side of the road, Green Peter dam & reservoir are on the other. Additionally there is great fishing here as well and does allow motorized boats. I never saw much for restroom facilities but some of the roads that travel around the reservoir do offer up some pretty scenery.

Wiley Ceek is a beautiful place to day trip on a hot summer day. There is a cool waterslide up there that drops into a deep pool.
However, it is located off Hwy 20, not 126. The turn off is just 1/4 mile past Foster Lake, not Greenpeter Res. As you drop down a hill and come into Sweet Home, it’s the turn to the left.
